The Future is Here

Moving to the Far West Side

The future is here! At Great Oaks, we've seen countless people come through our big red doors to experience liberation, salvation, healing, and the exchange of the ashes of our past for a crown of beauty Jesus has chosen to give through faith in Him for salvation. In the coming years, we see this vision of Isaiah 61 unfolding and expanding to the far west side of San Antonio.

Over the past few years, Pastor David and our senior leadership and elders have sought the Lord through prayer and fasting over sensing God calling our church out to the far west side of San Antonio. As a missional church, we're saying yes to Jesus by stepping into this greater vision and taking steps to break ground where he leads us. While there has been much growth on this side of town in recent years, there have been very few churches over here, further confirming God's call for this placement of our church.

Many details are still in the works, but join us now in prayer as we seek first the kingdom of God and pray for how He will lead us in the future unfolding of Isaiah 61 on the far west side of San Antonio.

So... Where Are We At?

There’s a lot that goes into a move like this, and we’re excited to share the journey with you. Below you’ll find a snapshot of where things stand in our process of moving to the Far West Side. No matter the phase, we’re choosing to trust God with every detail. This is His vision, and we believe He’ll faithfully guide every step. We’d love for you to be praying with us through the whole process.

Discernment & Vision Casting

Prayer, leadership alignment, congregational communication, and confirming the calling to move to the Far West Side.

We Are Here!

Sell Our Current Building

Preparing the property, listing, negotiating, and closing.

Prayerful Presence & Community Listening

Before we gather in a building, we want to show up as neighbors. This season is about prayerfully entering the far west side to listen, serve, and bless. We’ll form outreach teams, connect with local leaders, and look for simple, tangible ways to love our future community well.

Secure a Temporary Meeting Space

Short-term lease or partnership (school, theater, church, etc.) to continue gathering during the build.

Missional Presence

With a home base in the community, we’ll focus on building consistent, meaningful relationships. This phase is about living on mission through outreach, partnerships, and community events so people experience the love of Jesus long before they attend a service.

Secure Land

Identify property, negotiate terms, due diligence, surveys, zoning checks, and closing.

Design & Planning

Architectural design, space planning, ministry input, and master site plan.

Permits & Approvals

City approvals, zoning, permits, utilities, traffic studies, and any required hearings.

Start Building Process

Construction begins, regular progress updates, and milestone phases (foundation, framing, interiors)

Every Person on Mission

As construction begins, our church family steps in together through focused prayer, generosity, serving, and outreach. This season is about God shaping us into a church that lives sent, not just one that’s building a facility.

Final Inspection & Certification

City inspections, safety approvals, punch-list items, and final walkthroughs.

Move-In & Setup

Technology install, furniture, kids spaces, signage, and volunteer training in the new space.

Soft Opening

Test runs and working through the kinks with teams, systems, parking flow, kids check-in, and sound/lighting.

Launch Day!

Grand opening, community invites, celebration service, and outreach push.

Ongoing Mission & Gospel Impact (Isaiah 61)

This phase is about faithfully living on mission in the far west side as God brings restoration, healing, and new life. We’ll keep investing in relationships, discipling people, serving our city, and watching God establish Great Oaks as a lasting presence for His glory, with lives and communities being renewed along the way.

New Wineskins for New Wine

We feel the Lord is calling us to have a very strategic, kingdom presence on the far west side of San Antonio!
