Hear stories from the Great Oaks team that went on our spring break mission trip to New York City!
We sent a team of 54 adults and students to New York City on a mission trip over spring break. We partnered the New York School of Urban Ministry (NYSUM) who had existing ties in the area and knew how to train, equip, and effectively connect our team with real people with real needs in NYC.
Some of our team's outreach involved:
Latino Pastoral Action Center - Food Truck
Carter Burden - 74th St. Feeding Program
In House Ministries
Christ Disciples International Ministries - Work Project
Broadway Community, Inc. - Soup Kitchen
Food Truck Homeless Outreach
Providing a Homeless Worship Service
St. John Bread & Life - Soup Kitchen/Food Pantry
Christ Disciples International Ministries - Food Pantry
Prayer Station at Union Square
Throughout the entire trip, our team was encouraged to pray for God to highlight people that needed to feel seen or experience God's love and then to step out in boldness to pray for them and share the gospel!
"It stirred my heart. It gave me more confidence to just reach out to people in need and just go up and pray for people who need it and just be the hands and feet of Jesus" - Andra Paden
"The New York mission trip was really stretching for me in a lot of ways but one way specifically was just breaking out of my comfort zone and my fear of just approaching random people and just getting to just minister to them. That was something I, prior to this, would have never done naturally but now it seems like it's so much easier now that I've had this experience" - David Martin Jr.
