Pastors & Staff

Encouraging Our Pastors

Encouragement is one of our core values at Great Oaks, and we want to provide our church with an easy way to bless our amazing pastoral staff with words of encouragement during Pastor Appreciation Month.

David Martin

Lead Pastor

“There was a time when I was addicted and depressed but now that I exchanged my life for Jesus, I am free and know my purpose.”

David is a speaker, evangelist, pastor, and writer.  Before taking the role of Lead Pastor at Great Oaks Fellowship, he served as the Executive Director and Pastor of Desperation Ministries at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, CO. David and his wife Sarah have two children, David Jr. and Ashleigh.

Rob Viera

Executive Pastor

Adding value to others is what Rob has strived for in all areas of his life. After moving to San Antonio in April 2022 with his wife Nina and young son, Great Oaks Fellowship is where he began attending service and volunteered to coordinate Financial Peace University. In November 2022, Rob started his role as Executive Pastor, after a 26-year career in Emergency Medical Services. Transitioning from Managing Director of the largest ambulance service in Southern California to ministry was not in Rob’s original career plan and a story he invites you to ask him about on how he said YES to Jesus!

With a B.A. in Business Administration from Vanguard University of Southern California, Rob is grateful for the opportunity to use his experience and education to support others in their relationship with Christ.

Kurt Parker

Generations Pastor

Kurt was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He served at various churches as a Student Pastor for 15 years before accepting the role of Generations Pastor at Great Oaks Fellowship. Kurt is passionate about equipping and leading the church to continue in the work of intentional and authentic discipleship and multiplication. Kurt and his wife Bri have 6 children.

Candice Retana

Early Learning Center Director

From a young age, Candice has felt passionate about working with children. Growing up in a military family, she had the opportunity to volunteer and work in preschools around the world. After settling in San Antonio, Candice pursued a degree in Early Childhood Development and has been serving and working in that capacity since 2005.

Candice is driven by her desire for children to have a positive, loving early learning environment, so they can grow into who God created them to be. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Victor and their two children and loves crafting and decorating.

Sarah Martin

Worship Pastor

Having heard the call into worship at an early age, Pastor Sarah has been leading worship since her early teens. She and Pastor David Martin have been married for 25 years and have two children. Before coming to Grace Point West (now Great Oaks Fellowship) in 2019, Sarah served as a worship leader for New Life Church in Colorado Springs. Sarah is passionate about intercessory worship and prayer and about leading others in passionate, extravagant worship to the One Who is worthy of it all.

David Martin Jr.

Associate Worship Pastor

David was raised in San Antonio, Texas, and spent 3 years in New Life Church’s School of Worship, where he felt God’s pull into full-time ministry. David is extremely passionate about leading the local Church into authentic lives of worship, and has spent the last 6 years serving on staff at several churches doing so. David and his wife, Megan, have been married for 3 years, and write music together under the moniker “Hineni Music.”

Megan Martin

Adult Ministries Coordinator

Megan accepted Jesus at an early age and felt a specific call to ministry in early 2019.  Ever since she was 16, she’s had a desire to behold God’s beauty and to invite people into that. She is passionate about leading others in worship to the One who is worthy and deserving, expressing Great Oak’s story through creative outlets, songwriting, the prayer room, photography, and loving the people that walk through their “big red doors”.

Megan has been married to her husband, David Martin Jr. (DMJ) for over 3 years. With a B.A. in communications and a minor in business from Colorado Christian University, Megan is excited to be a part of the story that God is unfolding at Great Oaks Fellowship!

Billy Broadnax

Facilities Manager

Billy dedicated his life to serving in the US Air Force as a Civil Engineer. After 23 years, he retired and his family of four moved back to Texas. Once retired, he felt the need for spiritual growth and a calling to continue serving. While attending Grace Point Church West (now Great Oaks Fellowship), the position of Facilities Manager was advertised. He was hired in December of 2018 and since then has faithfully and selflessly served our congregation.

As Facilities Manager, Billy strongly believes the Lord’s House should be revered to the utmost. He is devoted to maintaining a clean, comfortable, and safe environment so there aren’t any distractions from God’s Word being delivered and received. When the Word is received, mindsets are changed and lives are transformed.
